It is acknowledged that the added value that you will bring to your employer by gaining this qualification is often reflected in your remuneration.
The CFA qualification has long been recognised as an equivalent to an MBA but it is also well known that the financial markets employers prefer to employ a CFA Charterholder that candidates with MBAs.
It is strongly recommended that you have either a primary degree or three years' work experience in financial markets before attempting the CFA course. A very high level of numerical ability is strongly advised, as the course is very mathematical in nature.

What is the CFA Program?
The Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Program is the professional qualification administered and awarded by the Association for Investment Management and Research (AIMR), based in the United States.
The programme is enjoying dramatic growth worldwide, which AIMR attribute to the relevance of the syllabus, the rigour of the examination and the high standards of professionalism that it demands. It is becoming the accepted benchmark for technical excellence in the financial markets.
The CFA Program takes a minimum of three years to complete. Candidates must pass three levels of examinations sequentially. Each level is based on the "body of knowledge" and candidates face six hours of examination, a three hour morning session and a three hour afternoon session.
According to the AIMR (Association for Investment Management and Research), the CFA program's rigorous curriculum, three levels of examination, and work experience requirements make the CFA charter perhaps the most recognized and respected achievement within the global investment industry. Those who have demonstrated the commitment to learning and ethical behaviour that the CFA cherter entails receive the ultimate degree of esteem from their peers, their employers, and their clients.
Pursuit of the CFA charter requires a tremendous investment of time and effort. The CFA Program's self-study curriculum is divided into three levels, each level culminating in an examination. You begin with Level I, a multiple-choice format exam that focuses on tools and concepts that apply to investment valuation and portfolio management. The Level II and Level III examinations, which are 50 percent essay and 50 percent item set, emphasize asset valuation and portfolio management/asset allocation, respectively. Because you take the exams sequentially, and because you may sit for just one level each year, the CFA program takes a minimum of three years to complete.
