REGULATOR (FINANCIAL)

With billions of dollars traded every day, there has to be strict regulation of financial organisations to make sure they deal honestly and fairly with their customers. Banks and financial institutions are regulated to ensure that they comply with legitimate business practice. This is where the Financial Regulator comes in.

There are several different Regulators around the world. Amongst the biggest is the SEC or Securities and Exchange Commission in the USA. In the UK there is the Financial Services Authority (FSA) and the banking Ombudsman. Apart from these organisations many central banks act in a regulatory capacity too.

To become a Financial Regulator you need to have a firm grasp of the laws that govern the banking and financial markets industry. Many former bankers become Regulators, as they have relevant banking experience. However graduate positions may also be available for those who want to learn the job from the ground up. A strong finance or legal related degree / qualification is usually a requirement for this job.
